Dear Parents of St Emily,

Lent is an important time for us to renew our Catholic faith through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. We have chosen to support  “Change for Change” a Canadian global initiative this Lenten season. Our patron saint, St. Emily, focused her work in poverty, women and education. Change for Change supports the education of the children living and working in poverty in Guatemala City by building schools and providing free education is a fitting choice for our community.

During the 40 days of Lent, students will be invited to do chores ( ie. make the bed, do the dishes, help with recycling, etc.) and gather change to bring into the school to share with this organization. This “work” focuses on our call to be “Sent to be the Good News” as part of our understanding of social justice, love and hope for all especially during Lent. Our student group has set a goal to raise $3500.00. This will be enough money to feed a class of 30 students for a year as well as hire a teacher for a year. We will celebrate each $500 dollars raised by placing a blooming flower in the front foyer.

Our collection begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14 and ends on Saturday, March 31. Our last school day to collect monies will be on Tuesday, April 3. We have several special days for your child to participate in;

  • Friday Feb 23rd:  P.J. Day

  • Friday Mar 2nd: Bubble Gum Day

  • Friday Mar 9: Aloha Beach Day

  • Friday Mar 23rd: Dapper Day ( Dress in your finest)

Your support for these children is truly appreciated.

Sincerely,
